Folate is an important nutrient for pregnant women, yet 17% of women of childbearing age do not consume enough Folate in their diet.[1] Folic Acid is the form of Folate used in dietary supplements, and it is recommended that pregnant women consume at least 600 DFE Folate (360 mcg Folic Acid) per day to support the growth of their developing baby. Additionally, Choline is an essential nutrient for baby’s development, but 95% of pregnant women do not meet the recommended intake level of Choline.[3] †

Where do we normally get this product from?
Normally, the nutrients in this multivitamin are found in a diet that provides a variety of foods, including an abundant intake of vegetables and fruit, whole grains, lean protein and low-fat dairy. Choline foods include eggs, chicken and beef liver. Choline can be found in smaller amounts in fish, soybeans, wheat germ, and cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower and broccoli.

Questions?
See our frequently asked questions below:
Prenatals are different compared to a “regular multivitamin” because a prenatal vitamin (a.k.a. prenatal multivitamin) contains higher amounts of certain key nutrients that are tailored especially for expecting mothers, such as Folic Acid, Iron and Choline.
Choline is an essential nutrient that the body needs for several important functions. Choline is needed to make acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter important for memory, mood, muscle control, circadian rhythm, and other brain and nervous system functions. Your body can make Choline in small amounts; however, it is not enough for what your body needs, so it must be obtained through the diet. Choline benefits include supporting brain cell structure and nervous system function.†
Before, during, and after pregnancy, women should focus on a healthy diet that provides fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, low- or non-fat dairy and lean protein. Key nutrient gaps in the American diet include Vitamins A, C, D and E and the minerals Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium. This multivitamin has been specially formulated to help address those gaps.[2] Additionally, the Omega-3 Fatty Acid DHA may help support fetal brain and eye development.†
During pregnancy, Choline helps support baby’s brain and spinal cord development. Pregnant and lactating women need higher amounts of Choline, at least 450 mg/day for pregnant women and 550 mg/day during lactation. However, the average daily intake during pregnancy is 277 mg of Choline.[3] One serving of our Choline Capsules provides 265 mg, which will help you meet your nutrient needs. When looking to take Choline for pregnancy, consider a Prenatal multivitamin that includes Choline, such as Nature Made® Prenatal Vitamins and Choline Capsules.
Folic Acid plays a vital role in the healthy development of baby’s nervous system, a process that occurs early in pregnancy. Eating healthful diets with adequate Folic Acid may reduce a woman’s risk of having a baby born with a neural tube defect. Pregnant women (and those looking to become pregnant) should consume 600 mcg Folic Acid per day, while breastfeeding women should consume 500 mcg per day. Nature Made® Prenatal Multi + Choline Capsules has clinically proven absorption of Folic Acid & Iron.†
You do not need to be pregnant to take a prenatal multivitamin, as it will provide essential vitamins and minerals for daily nutritional support. Growing a healthy baby starts before pregnancy, as some vitamins such as Folic Acid are crucial at the time of conception, and a prenatal vitamin will provide higher amounts of these crucial nutrients to support you during this time. So, if you are not pregnant but thinking about becoming pregnant, then you should consider taking a prenatal multivitamin.†
You will not find artificial flavors in our prenatal and postnatal multivitamins. Additionally, they are gluten free.
